Though I continued teaching bilingual classes at LAUSD’s Heliotrope Avenue Elementary in Maywood, California for five more years and eventually worked as a social worker for the county before opening my private practice as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, it’s still my favorite story to tell.
