Our family loved visiting the “Old Fashioned McDonalds” in Downey, CA. My daughters and I were ready to order our meals after pre-school and found we were a little short of cash and couldn’t order the apple pies we hoped for.
There was nothing more important to my teenage self than to be able to play baseball with my friends on the high school team, but I got cut after the tryout.
I was bummed, to say the least… Sometimes, if you don’t give up, and you keep on asking and looking, life presents an alternative.
While I didn’t play for Ygnacio Valley High School, our Beaver baseball team provided me with great memories and a heartwarming surprise from a teammate 37 years later.
Yes, we can be happy even when we’re cut from the high school team. I invite you to watch the Beaver Baseball Reunion Video with 4 of the players. It’s Episode 6.

When’s the last time you yelled at a six year-old and their response changed your life?
Marysol’s example that Wednesday afternoon taught me a lesson on forgiveness that I’ve never forgotten.
Though I continued teaching bilingual classes at LAUSD’s Heliotrope Avenue Elementary in Maywood, California for five more years and eventually worked as a social worker for the county before opening my private practice as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, it’s still my favorite story to tell.
